On Feb. 25, 2014, Walt Disney Studios unveiled Disney Movies Anywhere, a new digital movie service and app available exclusively on iTunes. With this new system Disney has in place you can now watch Disney iTunes movies on devices without having to use iTunes.
According to a Disney press release: “Debuting with iTunes as its exclusive launch provider, Disney Movies Anywhere is a simple, streamlined way to manage and enjoy your digital collection of Disney, Pixar, and Marvel movies on iPhone, iPad, iPad Touch and web experience. Plus, for a limited time, you’ll receive a free digital copy of Disney/Pixar’s ‘The Incredibles’ when you sign up and connect your iTunes account.”
Disney Movies Anywhere coincides on the same day that Disney’s animated 3-D blockbuster musical “Frozen” was released on home video as a digital download. “Frozen” was nominated for two Oscars: Best Animated Film and Best Original Song (for “Let It Go”), and the movie is widely predicted to win won or both awards.
Walt Disney Studios and Disney-owned Pixar Studios have won several Oscars for Best Animated Film, including for “The Incredibles,” “Up,” “Toy Story 3” and “Brave.”
Even though “Frozen” has now been released on home video, the movie is still playing in movie theaters, where it was released in November 2013. As previously reported, Disney also released a sing-along version of “Frozen” in U.S. and Canadian cinemas on Jan. 31, 2014.
Disney also owns Marvel Studios, which specializes in superhero films based on Marvel Comics. Movies released under Disney’s ownership of Marvel include “The Avengers,” “Iron Man 3” and “Thor: The Dark World.”
