Late Friday Jan 29th, The Hollywood Reporter broke news that “Fandango Gets Into the Streaming Business With Acquisition of M-GO“. This is good news for movie going people who like to pay or receive digital movies with theater purchases. For example, if you recently purchased Zoolander 2 tickets, Paramount Pictures offered a free Ultraviolet copy of Zoolander. This redemption was done with an email sent to the purchaser with a code enclosed to redeem the digital copy. If Fandango now has control to add movies to the purchasers account, it removes the need for redemptions codes.
Fandango said it will incorporate M-GO into its “super ticket” strategy, whereby moviegoers pay extra for perks. In one past promotion, for example, someone purchasing a ticket to see The Divergent Series: Insurgent at a theater also got a digital download of the original Divergent.
M-Go will be business as usual, just with new ownership and even more perks. Lets hope so!
